What the two destinations offer
El Chiflón is a waterfall visit built around an ascending riverside trail. Montebello is a lake district, where the experience is about viewpoints, forest surroundings and selected lakes. They are separate destinations, not two attractions inside one park. A combined tour divides time between them and cannot visit every lake.
Choose San Cristóbal or Tuxtla correctly
The San Cristóbal product currently lists an approximately 8 am pickup and 8 pm finish downtown. The Tuxtla option lists about 7 am–9:30 pm with hotel return. These are approximate product schedules, not general park hours. Book the departure for the city where you will actually sleep.
The waterfall walk and upper viewpoints
The combined tour descriptions mention approximately 800 steps for the upper waterfall route. Decide whether that fits your group before paying. Ask if a shorter lower-level visit is possible, where you would wait, and how you would rejoin the group. A private departure can allow a different pace, but reduced walking must still be agreed.

Which lakes and optional activities?
Ask for the actual lake stops rather than relying on a general list of famous names. Weather, access and the selected product can affect the route. Raft rides, kayaking and zip lines should be treated as optional extras unless your chosen booking explicitly includes them. Never assume there will be time for every activity.
Swimming, colors and weather expectations
Swimming is only an option where staff permit it on the day. Water conditions and access can change, and a blue-water photograph is not a guarantee of the same appearance during your visit. Pack a rain layer and protect electronics from spray. Ask about swimming before bringing a bag full of gear.
A practical packing and budget checklist
Bring shoes with grip, water, a light extra layer, cash and a small day bag. Add a change of clothes only if swimming is part of your plan. Check meals, admission charges and optional activities separately from the headline price. The San Cristóbal product ends downtown: allow for your own final trip to the hotel.

Frequently asked questions
Can I visit without climbing to the top?
Ask your selected operator whether a lower-level visit and meeting arrangement can be accommodated. Do not assume the group itinerary automatically allows it.
Does a tour visit every lake?
No. A combined day visits selected locations; confirm the actual stops.
